KTM 1290 Super Duke R
« on: March 23, 2017, 06:51:39 AM »
Last week I was fortunate to be invited to the launch of the new updated KTM 1290 Super Duke R, at Redstar Raceway, I'm not a big fan of racetracks, and Redstar is a very tight track, but nevertheless, lots of fun was had by all. The update SDR has new electronics, slightly more power than before, revised suspension, a super modern dash which more like a large smartphone, with info that will boggle the mind, overall an even more amazing package than the first version....

I don't understand what the intended use for the bike is?

Sunday morning runs to the News Cafe for some coffee?

It has the power & speed to go fast but surely without and wind protection it will get tiring quite quickly?

You are quite right, the SDR is not a long distance bike, not a commuter, to slot it's purpose is difficult, but what you do have is an absolutely bonkers machine, that would convert Mother Theresa into a screaming hooligan, it is just the machine to go out there and get your adrenaline going big time, it is the kind of machine that would be perfect to add to the collection, but as a one off bike, makes little sense....

I just LOVE my GT.

Goes like clappers. With a slight clutch action at 140kph it comes up into a perfect balance point wheely. Ive put the front down at 230kph and no tank slapper, yet  :peepwall:

I got panniers for the GT and did 2 long roadtrips, surprisingly it did well. 1000km a day no problems.
It chows tyres though. With the Angel GT touring tyres that was suppose to give at least 10 000km, I only got 4400km and the rear was shot  :ImaPoser:

The Super Duke puts me off, only reason cause it is a naked bike.

When I saw the GT, end of story.....

Although it has basically no wind protection, the previous version had exceptional airflow. We rode that, the Kawa Z1000, Ducati 1200 Monster and BMW S1000R on the same Bike of The Year jaunt. And the KTM surprised not only with its 180hp, but also how much it doesn't feel like a naked bike on the open road.
